Sand

box(es)

34°04'29.0"N 119°01'12.9"W

(1) h.1' x w.1' x d.1'

(1) h.2' x w.2' x d.2'

Intro

Sandbox(es) cleverly reinterprets a familiar term. Traditionally associated with a child's play area filled with sand, the word now evokes a more nuanced dialogue around containment and form. By shaping an inherently formless, natural material, Sandbox(es) extends this metaphor—transforming the act of play into a deeper exploration of boundaries and structure. Set atop an isolated dune, with the ocean held at a distance by a stretch of road, the work emphasizes a striking contrast: the deliberate geometry of human intervention set against the shifting landscape of the coast.
